I sailed Site Office two up with the owner from Vanuatu to New Caledonia and then home to New Zealand in October 2022. I had the aft port cabin which opens into the outside saloon and was hugely impressed by its enormous volume and comfort while under way.

I was also immensely impressed by the 52F’s performance ave3raging around two knots above half the wind speed. We departed Noumea in 20-25 k knots and a 3+ metre sea state. We sat comfortably with 1 reef in the main and 1/3 furled jib at 10 -12+ knots with the wind slightly forward of the beam. The motion was superbly comfortable and the speed exhilarating for such a cruising catamaran.

As with any offshore cruising most of the time we are slowing the boat down with reefed sails for the sea state and claims of very fast passages on centerboard cats must be tempered by the comfort or discomfort of the passage. The Lagoon 52 also offers far more useable space and luxury than other centreboard cats – which I have also sailed on (Catana 582 from Seychelles to NZ) and we rarely adjusted the boards due to the cruising and wind direction that prevail with the seasons. Centreboards suddenly become a giant moving part, under lots of pressure if utilized. To see more of the passage on ‘Site Office’ to New Zealand please go to for a video blog.
